“You don’t have to be rich to sparkle,” how perfect does that describe my night tonight?! I may not be high-rollin’ but I can still put on a sparkly dress paired with some fabulous jewels and have a fantastic night! Whatever you’re doing tonight, staying in or going out… have fun! It’s the end of the year and this is the time to celebrate everything that’s happened over the past year — good or bad. Take a break from worrying and just enjoy yourself… and a few cocktails. Doctor’s orders. I’ll be out in Dallas tonight and I can’t wait for my first NYE in the “Big D!” I feel like I am bound to have a good night, right?? Yes, I think so! Cheers to a great 2012 and even better 2013!!

See you next year!! :)

I decided that the rest of this week is deemed as time off. I haven’t had this long of a break since college and I want to fully enjoy it. Have no fear, I will be doing some work on the blog and will be back on Monday! If you’re on vacation like me, enjoy it! I sincerely hope that everyone has the happiest of holidays!

All I Want For Christmas Is You…

xmas-tree

Merry Christmas Eve!! This is one of my favorite days of the year. “Why?” you ask? Well, we have family holiday traditions that commence today! We spend the day relaxing around the house while preparing for the activities to come in the next day. As the evening rolls around, everyone gets ready for church and the annual Christmas party. One of our family-friends host a holiday party every year on Christmas Eve. It is a great time to catch up with people from my hometown that I normally don’t get the opportunity to see. After the party, we head home to open one present. Each year we get to open one present the night before. I think it is partially because when we were younger we had little-to-no patience. It was the only way to get us to stop asking about what was under the tree. Opening just one present calmed the nerves and allowed us to spread out the holiday cheer of opening presents for just one more day. After presents are open we all go into my dad’s office and read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Possibly one of my favorite books ever. My momma reads it every year but I remember the one year when I was old enough to read the entire book. Big deal in a child’s life. But now that all of us are old enough and have read books longer than twelve pages, momma continues the tradition of reading the book.

Does anyone else have Christmas Eve traditions? I would love to hear your Christmas Eve/Day plans! Have a wonderful holiday!!

Home for The Holidays!

Tomorrow morning I am waking up bright and early to head home for the holidays! I could not be more excited! I haven’t been home since October and for this home-body, that is a long time. I know what you’re thinking “home-body that moved thousands of miles away? hardly.” But I have to admit, I am very much a home-body. I love my home and my family. Home has always been the equivalent of a happy place for me. Whenever my parents even slightly mention moving out of our house I immediately throw a fit and start laying down any argument possible. I can’t help it — I was born and raised in the same house. There is no other house I want to come home to. No other house would ever be “home” to me. This holiday season after all that has been going on in the world it really makes me appreciate my family that much more. Sure there is guaranteed bickering and chaos with my brothers but that is inevitable. I go home expecting this. But this year, I cannot wait for it all. I love my family so much and I am so blessed to have them. Take me home :)

A Holiday Size Hangover

What is the worst thing around the holidays? I know it’s hard to imagine anything about the holidays is bad but there are one, well two, things. 1. the large consumption of food which later creates the inevitable “food baby” and 2. the holiday size hangover. I don’t care who you are —  hangovers are the worst. If you happen to be one of those people that drink excessive amounts of alcohol and have never experienced a hangover: congrats…and how rude. There is literally nothing worse than waking up in the morning after spending time at a holiday party the night before and being miserable. The holiday season is supposed to be a time of happiness and merriness… which, in my opinion guarantees a glass of champagne. So what if a few cocktails happen to get thrown into the mix. Sue me. But the key is being able to get rid of the aftermath in a timely manner. Keyword: timely. I am not talking about laying in bed all day sleeping off that headache that won’t crack or the stomach ache that never seems to subside. Well have no fear, your holiday hangover cure is here!! That’s right. I have found some tidbits that will surely help you rid you dreadful symptoms. Enjoy! …and bottoms up!

  1. Gatorade/Vitamin Water/Coconut Water – Low blood sugar paired with dehydration accounts for most of those nasty hangover symptoms (think headache, shakiness and thirst), so a beverage enhanced with vitamins, sugar and electrolytes are your best bet for a quick rebound. Meanwhile, if you’ve got an exceptionally wicked hangover, just go straight for the Pedialyte.
  2. Spa Day – If your hangover is mild to moderate, a massage might be just the thing to release toxins, ease achy muscles and relax an overworked nervous system. Afterward, spend some time in the steam room to sweat out any leftover toxins. Just make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day so you don’t get dehydrated. *Note: If your hangover has you feeling truly terrible, it’s best to skip the massage, since releasing any more toxins into your bloodstream can actually make you feel worse.
  3. Bitters and soda water – If nausea is your biggest hangover issue, this old-fashioned remedy is a well-known standby for quick stomach relief. Angostura Bitters was initially created nearly 200 years ago as a stomach medicine, but nowadays, it’s frequently used as a cocktail flavoring (or hangover remedy, whatever).
  4. Peppermint Tea – This warm, caffeine-free beverage helps hangovers in a number of ways. Peppermint is a well-known cure for headaches and migraines, and it also has anti-spasmodic properties, which can help alleviate stomach maladies. Not to mention, tea is mostly made of water, which is what you really need after a night of heavy drinking.

Does anyone have any remedies of their own to help rid a hangover?! Please share :)

Have a great Thursday! Tomorrow is finally Friday!! Woo!

Did you know that emerald has been named 2013 Pantone Color of the Year?! After discovering this I seriously jumped for joy! I have always been attracted to the color emerald….on everything. Blouses, pants, jewelry, wallets… you name it and I’ve considered purchasing it (and inevitably gave into my craving!). As a blonde, emerald is one of those colors that looks good year-round. If I am pale, tan or that awkward autumn mix, it will blend perfectly with my skin tone. Oh the benefits of being blonde! Not to say emerald doesn’t look good on brunettes by any means! Of course, that is why I am so excited it is the color of the year. It looks good on just about everyone!

Not to mention, it look amazing in home decor. I always love pulling in bright greens into my color scheme for my home. Right now I have a pillow that closely resembles emerald on my bed and its one of my favorites! You can seriously use this color anywhere… closet, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen….heck go crazy and dress the dog in it! I can tell you right now, it won’t be a mistake. One can do no wrong with this color. Not only does it stand great on its own but match it with any color and it looks flawless. Go ahead and think about it. Emerald and navy? Amazing. Emerald and yellow? Amazing. Emerald and pink? A little watermelon-esque but it’ll work. Emerald and anything? You guessed it..amazing.

Let me know what you find in the upcoming year in this fabulous color. I know I will be finding any excuse to purchase more items in emerald!!

Have a happy Wednesday!
