M is for Monday

Hello lovahs. I.am.back!! I sincerely apologize for my “crappiness” lately. That whole balance of |work life|social life|love life| is a little unstable at the moment. Work seems to be taking over and that is just not okay. I have always had a strong work ethic — thank you, parents — but at one point or another I think we can all appreciate the voice in our head that says “just stop working. stop it all. right now.” I think after this week I will have hit that point. This will be coming at a wonderful time because not only is the equally loved and hated day of romance this week but momma is coming to town this weekend!! Lots to look forward to. ALSO, I have a few dinners this week (which we all know makes the week go by that much faster!)– one with the fabulous and my best bloggie friend Little Miss Wade!

Cheers to Monday and my (long-awaited, I’m sure) return!

New Year, New Rule.

If you ask me New Years resolutions are designed for you to fail. I mean realistically, how many of you have actually kept a resolution going for longer than 3 months? Not me — that is for sure. I am just not one of those people that can stay committed to something for that long. I am a phase kind of gal. I go through phases like you wouldn’t believe. My mother can attest to this. Therefore, this year after twenty-two something years of making “resolutions” I have decided that a change (read: rule) is necessary. [Rule #1: This year I will make goals rather than resolutions.] Goals seem much more attainable. After all, I want something that can be accomplished and I will be proud to cross off my list come 2014.

I know I am little behind on posting my “resolutions” but whatever, sue me. Here are a few that I’ve been working on and wanted to share with you:

– find a hobby — I don’t know why this is so hard but it’s been on my mind for awhile. I want to find something I can become passionate about. I am currently borrowing my father’s DSLR camera to see if I want to dive back into photography.
– eat organic — whether I like to admit it or not, I am a health freak. Not so much that my life is consumed by it but being healthy and living well has always sparked an interest. I know eating organic is much better for my body so I figure, why not?
– buy classics, don’t just settle for spontaneous sale items — this is a no-brainer. Saving money and being practical about purchases could never hurt.
– teach the dog a new trick — he is turning 3 in April and I think it’s time he learn something new.
– make an educated decision about the blog— i can officially check off my first goal!! With yesterday marking the day I made a decision to get back into blogging.
– make 5 new friends — i know this may sound odd but I am finally getting settled and Dallas is starting to finally feel like home. However, I love meeting new people and think that it would be great to gain some new friends in Dallas. I’m looking forward to seeing this goal develop!
– volunteer — give back!
– cook a meal at least once a week— so far, so good. On Sunday the boyfriend and I made chili and tonight’s menu includes stuffed bell peppers!
– witness something truly amazing— i am hoping this happens before Summer 2013 but if it doesn’t, I know that come July (my big brother is getting married!) I will have witnessed something wonderful.

These are just a few of the goals I have been working on so far. I have a full page in the back of my new calendar dedicated to these bad boys and I cannot wait to start checking them off! Wish me luck! Does anyone have similar goals? Or different ones that they want to share?!

Have a wonderful day!!

The Beginning…Again

I’ve been “ignoring” my blog— it’s not really ignoring when I think about it daily— for about 1.5-2 weeks now. I wish i could say I had an excuse (does getting the flu count?) but regardless, I’ve been denying my blog the attention it deserves. Lately, I just haven’t been motivated to write but with 2013 now in full effect, I realized that it is time I make an educated decision about Tasteful {ness}. I am going to try and make a commitment of blogging 3-4 times a week. I want to be able to post every day but I just don’t think I have the time or the material right now. So here is to a brand new start in 2013. Full of good food, lots of fun, and a bunch of tasteful things in the future!! Thanks for sticking around :)

Holiday Party Cheers!

Cheers-01holidaycocktailimage via

Tonight I am going to my first big-girl holiday party! I am so excited! As you can imagine, I have been planning my outfit for weeks. Green pleated dress with a sequin underlay and belted at the waist. I got the cutest Kate Spade earrings (on sale @ the APoT blogger event a few weeks back!) that I think will compliment the dress perfectly. I am trying out the Dry Bar in Dallas for the first time tonight. I figure, why not get all dolled up? After all, the opportunity is rare!

I am very much looking forward to this weekend. Holiday parties with festive cocktails coupled with relaxation and the Chihuly exhibit adds up to a great weekend in my books! With football season coming to an end it means my weekends will finally be spent in Dallas which I could not be more ready for.. finally!

Below are some “skinny” holiday cocktails that I have been dying to create. Cheers!!

Skinny Eggnog
Skinny Pumpkin Spiced Latte
Healthy Hot Toddy
Rosemary Pear Sparkler
Voli Hot Cocoa
Pomegranate Champagne Punch
The Skosmopolitan Cocktail
Simply Simple Gingerbread Martini
Spicy Ginger Vanilla Margarita

Have a great weekend!!

Currently Coveting: Blogs

Now I know what you’re thinking, what is the point of talking about another blog on my blog? Although I may be new to the “blogging world”, I am an old friend of the “blog world”. My morning routine consists of a few things, one being that I must read my favorite blogs. I have about eight or nine that I read religiously and absolutely love. Am I the only one who thinks they’re real-life friends with the authors of the blogs they read? Happens all the time.

For awhile I have read Luella & June and Gal Meets Glam. They remain two of my favorites. Bradley of Luella & June is actually a friend of a friend (although I’m not entirely sure she knows it) and lives in Dallas. Her fashion-based blog is very chic and always has fantastic giveaways! Julia of Gal Meets Glam lives in San Fran with her (freshly married) husband and they’re adorable. Julia’s style&beauty-based blog is amazing. Her posts include pictures of her daily outfits which are always so effortless and classy- my kind of gal.

Within the past six months I have added quite a few blogs to my list:

Cupcakes and Cashmere– if you want to see some who is rocking all trades of the business, check out this blog. Emily is a balancing act. She has written books, created blogs, you name it and she has probably done it. Its amazing to see the possibility of a blog. She started in 2008 and it has continually grown ever since. Her posts range from home decor to sales to style pictures to holiday decor! Its incredibly versatile and would be a good read for many people.

Things That Sparkle– Alex Kaehler (formally Berlin) is a Chicago-native who has a passion for interior design. So much so that she decided a few years back to open her own interior design business (Alexandra Kaehler Design). She posts about not only home decor and design but also about fashion. Best of both worlds if you ask me. Not to mention, she is recently married and her wedding photos (and venue) are to die for!!! Oh… AND she has a yellow lab— i know, i am biased. Anyways, Alex is extremely talented and I seriously can’t help but love all of her work.

A Piece of Toast– Molly + Sally + A Piece of Toast = without a doubt the cutest sisters (and blog) ever. The Dallas girls teamed up and created a blog a few years ago and have been a hit ever since. They write about real life things that we are all really thinking about. Yes, fashion and style but also the daily questions we ask ourselves. They bring clarity with a touch of sass and humor. It’s perfect.

Elements of Style– when first reading Erin’s blog i was immediately attracted to her style of writing. She doesn’t beat around the bush which i can relate to just a little :). This might have something to do with the fact that she lives in the Northeast– again, I am biased. Lately, her blog has focused a lot on her recent move with her husband. Their house is beautiful and she has been posting about the renovations along the way. Her talent for putting all the pieces in a room together is insane. I can’t wait to see all the finished products together. I know it will be wonderful!

Sequins and Stripes– I was introduced to Liz of Sequins and Stripes by Alex of TTS (above) when they decided to open an office together. She is involved personal styling and overall style management, whether that be consulting or tip&tricks. Liz is one of those girls you really think you would love if you ever met. She is so sweet (errrr…or looks like she would be sweet!!) and can usually be found in something from J.Crew (always a good choice in my opinion).

Damsel In Dior– Last but certainly not least is my new favorite. Jacey is a serious fashion icon in my books. Not kidding, she has Catt Sadler from E! News in a lot of her photos. Apparently their best friends which makes me want to become friends with Jacey somehow too. But anyways, her style is fantastic and she utilizes the best accessories! She posts her wardrobe photos every day which I always love to admire!

I hope you are able to check out a few of the blogs I read. I get some of my inspiration from reading the blogs above so if you enjoy my blog, please check out their blogs, as well!! Don’t forget about me though :)

Have a wonderful Tuesday!!
