Oh, Saint Valentine

happyvday-01

For this particular post I was just looking up images of “love” on a tumblr that I enjoy incorporating into my blog. I searched pages and pages, and while i found wonderful and beautiful pictures of love, none seemed just right. After all, today is a day to celebrate the one most important thing we have in life: l.o.v.e. Real, honest-to-God, and true love. No wonder I couldn’t find it on a tumblr— I was looking in the wrong place! If i want “real love,” I need to find real people in real life situation. People I know, people.I.love. People that understand it won’t always be easy and that sometimes things get confusing. But people that also understand, it is all worth it.

Let’s take a moment and be honest if we’re already chatting about “true love.” Today , it doesn’t matter if you are in a relationship or not. Anyone and everyone can celebrate the oh-so-frequently-despised Valentine’s Day. We all have experienced some sort of love (I genuinely hope so). Everyone deserves to know what love is. In my opinion, it doesn’t matter if your love is a love for a friend or a love for a parent or love for anyone else… it’s all considered love. That is what I love about love! They’re are sooo many different kinds of love in the world. I think we can all agree that the most important love we should have is love for our self. I am not going to rant and rave about the things I love about myself because well, that’s slightly egotistical and who wants to read about that? I certainly don’t want to write about it. However, i do think it needs to be recognized. Without question, we are our biggest critics and I think it is a valuable quality to be able to step back from mirror, look at the big picture, and realize, “everything is okay and i am happy.” Haven’t you ever realized that when you feel good about yourself or you get a compliment from a stranger or you’re involved in some random act of kindness… you just feel happy!? It’s the universe’s way of patting you on the back to let you know,  you can do it.

My guy and I aren’t for celebrating big but an exchange of cards is a must. I may or may not have hinted at flowers to accompany the card so hopefully he got the hint. He hasn’t seemed to fail me yet. I feel so blessed to have such an amazing man in my life. However, if we are going on this whole “let’s be honest” rampage, I have to admit, my dad will always be my first and favorite valentine. Is that dumb? I am a twenty-something daddy’s girl. Nope, I don’t think so. My dad is my most favorite man in the world and will always be my first love, I suppose he deserves some credit. I love you, Dad. Happy Valentine’s Day!

May your day be filled with love, chocolate and wine. All things you can gift yourself… or others :)

All my love,

Currently Coveting: Red Hot Items

redhot

| 1. Mara Hoffman bikini | 2. NARS Lipstick in Jungle Red | 3. JCrew Beaded Rose Necklace | 4. Kate Spade Terry Flat | 5. Joie Pinot Top | 6. Cosa Bella Never Say Never Sweetie Soft Bra | 7. Kate Spade Pop Art Scarf | 8. Cosa Bella Never Say Never Cutie Lowrider Thong |

Whether you’re buying for yourself or others this holiday, you can always find an excuse to go shopping. In my case, these are some “red hot” — err, or pink— items that I have been eying lately. Some are just practical for the holiday, cue the most comfortable bra and undies known to womankind (Cosa Bella), while others just happen to be red and pink so they fall into the “holiday” category. Without question I think my favorite item on this list is the Mara Hoffman bikini. I have been lusting after one of her suits for so long. Hence the reason I managed to pick out one of the suits that had pink in it. Sorry, I had to— her bathing suits are always so cute and chic. Who wouldn’t want to dive into a pool in one of these bad boys? I certainly do!! On another note, once hopping out of the pool and switching the gears into a cute sundress, a perfect lipstick to pair it with is necessary. PS. can you tell I am ready for warm/beach weather?! Anyways, I have about three NARS lipsticks so far and I am hooked. They’re so great and they have a bunch of different types (i.e. smooth, matte, semi-matte- you get the picture) and I love them all. I highly recommend everyone purchases at least one asap. Not to mention, they’re color selection is top notch. In fact, I think it might be time i add numero four to the bunch. We shall see!

PS. i suppose these couldn’t hurt to add to the wish list either!

Tuesday Recap & Links

tumblr_m1t9sd9gbL1qfm87to1_500

This.week.is.hectic. Four words that clearly don’t do enough justice. I may be in and out this week with blogging. My career is slowly taking over my life and will be for the next couple of weeks. My plan is to work on the blog in my down time and/or this weekend. I apologize for my slacking lately. I declare this week as time to enjoy a (read: BIG) glass of wine and some quiet time when possible. Err— if only it was possible. I will try my best, don’t you worry!

As for now, here are a few recipes I am dying to try. One that I may or may not (busted: I totally am) making tonight with the boyfriend. I will be sure to document the process! Bon Appetit!

The Good Stuff

foodgawkerobsession_stuffedpeppers-01

Last night I had an impromptu night of cooking with my roommate & friend. We made, you guessed it, stuffed bell peppers. I have always been a fan of stuffed peppers. Something (err— everything) about them is just fantastic. I think it has something to do with the mix & match of meat, vegetables, and rice — all of these make a balanced meal in my mind. Not to mention, I love baking things. Is this weird? I would MUCH rather bake something than an other form of cooking. Its so simple and easy! Okay,  I understand that may have just qualified me as a lazy cook but whatever, the food turns out great and allows my kitchen to remain mess-free. Perfectly good justifications if you ask me. I have used the recipe from Let’s Dish before and once again, it was a complete success. Bon Appetit!

Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
1 pound lean ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon taco seasoning
2 cups cooked rice
4-6 red (or green) bell peppers
1 (15 oz.) can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 cup frozen corn, thawed
1 (10 oz.) can diced tomatoes and green chilies
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Cut the peppers in half lengthwise and remove seeds and ribs.  Coat the pepper halves inside and out with about 1 tablespoon of the olive oil.  Place into a lightly greased baking dish.  In a large saute pan over medium high heat, saute the onion and garlic in remaining olive oil until soft.  Reduce heat to medium and add ground beef; cook until beef is no longer pink .  Stir in taco seasoning.  Add diced tomato and green chilies, corn, beans and sour cream.  Stir and cook until heated through. Remove from heat and stir in cooked rice and cilantro.

Generously fill peppers with meat and rice mixture.  Cover and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until peppers are just tender.  Remove from oven and sprinkle with shredded cheese.  Return to oven, uncovered, for 5-10 minutes more, until cheese is melted and peppers are tender.  Garnish with additional cheese, cilantro, avocado or sour cream, if desired.

* My friend brought over a side salad which included goat cheese (my favorite!!), shaved almonds, apples and a few other goodies. It was delicious!

PS. Can you tell the difference in quality of photos? I used my dad’s camera that I talked about yesterday and I think the pictures are so much better. But I am a nerd and notice these things. Maybe I finally found a hobby? We’ll see!! Bare with me as I am still learning how to use it :) Enjoy your Wednesday!

New Year, New Rule.

newyear-01tumblr_m09nw0uhWj1ro46rko1_500

If you ask me New Years resolutions are designed for you to fail. I mean realistically, how many of you have actually kept a resolution going for longer than 3 months? Not me — that is for sure. I am just not one of those people that can stay committed to something for that long. I am a phase kind of gal. I go through phases like you wouldn’t believe. My mother can attest to this. Therefore, this year after twenty-two something years of making “resolutions” I have decided that a change (read: rule) is necessary. [Rule #1: This year I will make goals rather than resolutions.] Goals seem much more attainable. After all, I want something that can be accomplished and I will be proud to cross off my list come 2014.

I know I am little behind on posting my “resolutions” but whatever, sue me. Here are a few that I’ve been working on and wanted to share with you:

– find a hobby — I don’t know why this is so hard but it’s been on my mind for awhile. I want to find something I can become passionate about. I am currently borrowing my father’s DSLR camera to see if I want to dive back into photography.
– eat organic — whether I like to admit it or not, I am a health freak. Not so much that my life is consumed by it but being healthy and living well has always sparked an interest. I know eating organic is much better for my body so I figure, why not?
– buy classics, don’t just settle for spontaneous sale items — this is a no-brainer. Saving money and being practical about purchases could never hurt.
– teach the dog a new trick — he is turning 3 in April and I think it’s time he learn something new.
– make an educated decision about the blog— i can officially check off my first goal!! With yesterday marking the day I made a decision to get back into blogging.
– make 5 new friends — i know this may sound odd but I am finally getting settled and Dallas is starting to finally feel like home. However, I love meeting new people and think that it would be great to gain some new friends in Dallas. I’m looking forward to seeing this goal develop!
– volunteer — give back!
– cook a meal at least once a week— so far, so good. On Sunday the boyfriend and I made chili and tonight’s menu includes stuffed bell peppers!
– witness something truly amazing— i am hoping this happens before Summer 2013 but if it doesn’t, I know that come July (my big brother is getting married!) I will have witnessed something wonderful.

These are just a few of the goals I have been working on so far. I have a full page in the back of my new calendar dedicated to these bad boys and I cannot wait to start checking them off! Wish me luck! Does anyone have similar goals? Or different ones that they want to share?!

Have a wonderful day!!

The Beginning…Again

tumblr_m28oiwdOEC1qfs9mso1_500

I’ve been “ignoring” my blog— it’s not really ignoring when I think about it daily— for about 1.5-2 weeks now. I wish i could say I had an excuse (does getting the flu count?) but regardless, I’ve been denying my blog the attention it deserves. Lately, I just haven’t been motivated to write but with 2013 now in full effect, I realized that it is time I make an educated decision about Tasteful {ness}. I am going to try and make a commitment of blogging 3-4 times a week. I want to be able to post every day but I just don’t think I have the time or the material right now. So here is to a brand new start in 2013. Full of good food, lots of fun, and a bunch of tasteful things in the future!! Thanks for sticking around :)

Did you know that emerald has been named 2013 Pantone Color of the Year?! After discovering this I seriously jumped for joy! I have always been attracted to the color emerald….on everything. Blouses, pants, jewelry, wallets… you name it and I’ve considered purchasing it (and inevitably gave into my craving!). As a blonde, emerald is one of those colors that looks good year-round. If I am pale, tan or that awkward autumn mix, it will blend perfectly with my skin tone. Oh the benefits of being blonde! Not to say emerald doesn’t look good on brunettes by any means! Of course, that is why I am so excited it is the color of the year. It looks good on just about everyone!

Not to mention, it look amazing in home decor. I always love pulling in bright greens into my color scheme for my home. Right now I have a pillow that closely resembles emerald on my bed and its one of my favorites! You can seriously use this color anywhere… closet, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen….heck go crazy and dress the dog in it! I can tell you right now, it won’t be a mistake. One can do no wrong with this color. Not only does it stand great on its own but match it with any color and it looks flawless. Go ahead and think about it. Emerald and navy? Amazing. Emerald and yellow? Amazing. Emerald and pink? A little watermelon-esque but it’ll work. Emerald and anything? You guessed it..amazing.

Let me know what you find in the upcoming year in this fabulous color. I know I will be finding any excuse to purchase more items in emerald!!

Have a happy Wednesday!
